Mallard Cove is easy access for everyone, Be careful the water is high and the banks are wet and may be a bit unstable.
Coot Bay, Honker Cove boat ramp and Lightening Tree boat ramp all have large snow berms when you turn into them. Looks like a couple of people have tried to break through them but they are still too deep

Dec. 16, 2016 Good news!
As reported by the Sacramento Bee, nearly a decade after state officials last dumped chemicals into a Plumas County lake to kill off nonnative predatory fish, state water regulators are going to allow the reservoir to fill to the brim this winter.

The Department of Water Resources lowered Lake Davis near Portola in the 1990s to prevent storms from washing predatory northern pike into the waterways below the dam and begin killing native fish.

In 2007, state fisheries officials used a chemical in the 84,000-acre-foot reservoir to kill the fish. The lake was kept low in the following years as a precaution. A similar chemical treatment was conducted in 1997, but the pike were again found in the reservoir two years later.

The reservoir is formed by Grizzly Valley Dam on Big Grizzly Creek, a tributary of the middle fork of the Feather River. Lake Davis provides drinking water to the nearby city of Portola.

For more info here is a link to the Sacramento Bee Web site.

May 11, 2015 We want to have a group from TRAC out there working WITH the local Beckwourth Ranger District to clean up and improve our existing trails June 6th. Please let us know here if you can make it and we'll get a group and see what we can do to help improve our local existing trails.
From Pandora Valle at the Beckwourth Ranger District:
Mark your calendar for National Trails Day on June 6, 2015. The Beckwourth Ranger District is coordinating with local groups, clubs, schools and community members to work on trails on the District. It’s a time to contribute to your community while enjoying some of the beautiful trails on the Forest. Some of the trails we hope to work on are Mills Peak, Lake Davis, Dixie Mountain and several in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area.
We invite you to participate in this event. Please reach out to your group to recruit volunteers. Then let me know how many folks you may have and what trails they want to work on.
Each year events are held to help promote awareness of the wide variety of benefits that trails provide, to encourage people to discover their local trails, to raise awareness of trail issues, and to instill excitement for the outdoors.

Please respond by May 22nd so we may further plan the event.

Come join us for a fun day on the beautiful Beckwourth Ranger District.

Please let us know if you can make this asap, so we can let thme know also.

- Know and comply with all current fire restrictions for the area where you plan to use a campfire.

- Clear all flammable materials from the ground for 5 feet in all directions from the edge of the fire.  Keep a shovel and water nearby.

- Keep the fire small - Think of the fire in a cube 2 feet x 2 feet x 2 feet.

- Always personally supervise the campfire until it is completely extinguished, or ensure that another knowledgeable adult supervises the fire.

- Always personally make sue the fire is dead out and completely cold before you leave it unsupervised.  Extinguish the fire with water and a shovel using the "drown, stir, and feel" method.

- YOU are legally responsible and may be liable for fire suppression costs if the fire escapes.

- Help prevent the spread of invasive species.  Get your firewood where you burn it.  Do not bring firewood from home and do not take it home with you.  Learn more at www.firewood.ca.gov.
